Speaking today about the reported editing and removal of parts of last night’s RTÉ Prime Time Debate from the RTÉ online player, Senator Rónán Mullen said:
“Last night on Prime Time, I criticised the planned broadcasting charge and the fact that the establishment parties and RTÉ have failed to facilitate any debate on this proposed tax which will be levied on every household in the country. I also challenged the manner in which the RTÉ debate last night was structured and suggested that RTÉ is perhaps too cosy with the political establishment and failed in its statutory obligation to be fair and impartial on this occasion. Today on the RTÉ player my contribution criticising RTE was edited out. Following on from this the programme was removed entirely before being reposted temporarily.
So, I ask again, is there a possibility that RTE is supporting the status quo in light of the new broadcasting charge that will be imposed on people and censoring any public debate on this issue? The public which pays for the national broadcaster has a right to know.”
