Rónán says: “Unemployment in our communities is blighting a generation, causing depression and hopelessness to many people across our communities.
I will work to secure all available funds from Europe to assist in job creation in our region.
Supports available from the European Social Fund must be deployed against youth unemployment. In particular I will work to ensure that our region receives its fair share and that funds are targeted to areas in dire need of resources to keep young people working in the community.
Grants are available under Cohesion Funds for retraining and up-skilling. I will work to ensure that funds are easily accessible and not wrapped in ‘red tape’. Re-skilling and education funds must be made available in a targeted and well-publicised manner, so that communities who need them can avail of them.”
